PURPOSE: To provide a skin external agent, having extremely high preventing effect on the formation of lipid peroxide, inflammation, melanism, aging, etc., caused by the formation of active oxygen in the skin by ultraviolet rays. CONSTITUTION: The skin external agent contains (A) a water-soluble rutin, preferably an α-glycosylrutin of formula (R is glucose, maltose, maltotriose or maltotetraose) and (B) an active oxygen scavenger (preferably β-carotene, SOD, etc.) and/or an antioxidation agent (preferably vitamin C, vitamin E, etc.) as active components in amounts of 0.00001-5wt.% of A (in terms of rutin) and 0.00001-5wt.% of B. Examples of the active oxygen scavenger are mannitol, hydroquinone, cholesterol, an SOD-like complex and an animal or vegetable extract having SOD activity and those of the antioxidation agent are vitamin A, vitamin B, glutathione and BHT. |
