PURPOSE: To divide a photoelectric conversion element column into optimum blocks by calculating the focusing state of a photographing lens every formal block and deciding the final focusing state based on the calculated plural focusing states. CONSTITUTION: An arithmetic operation processing circuit 3 is provided with a filter processing circuit 3a, an arithmetic operation range set circuit 3b, a focus detection arithmetic operation circuit 3c, a temporary block set circuit 3d and the like. Based on the difference of output signals at the boundary part of the temporary blocks, the contrast of the boundary part of the temporary blocks and the contrast of the part other than the boundary part of the temporary blocks, the plural formal blocks are set on the photoelectric conversion element column. Then, the focusing state of the photographing lens 100 is calculated every formal block and the final focusing state is decided based on the plural calculated focusing states. Therefore, such a state that a block dividing an object pattern into two is set or the boundary of the blocks is moved large on occasion is eliminated and the block is optimally set. |
