PURPOSE: To make it possible to remove the multiple reflections in gap parts and to decrease the ternary distortions generated when light modulation signals of plural waves are made incident. CONSTITUTION: This optical attenuator has optical fiber ferrules 1, 2. These optical fiber ferrules 1, 2 are provided with at least a pair of slits 5, 6 formed in prescribed positions along their optical axis L. Of a pair of the respective slits 5, 6, the one slit inclines by an angle at which the Fresnel reflection at the air boundary can be terminated in one direction with the plane perpendicular to the optical axis L and creates the gap of a prescribed width along the optical axis L. The other slit inclines by an angle at which the Fresnel reflection at the air boundary can be terminated in the direction opposite to the one direction with the plane perpendicular to the optical axis and creates the gap of a prescribed width along the optical axis L. |
