摘要 PURPOSE: To avoid the overcharge or overdischarge of a battery by a method wherein, when the charged state of the battery is out of a first control target range, the series hybrid running is forcibly executed. CONSTITUTION: An ECU 32 opens the mechanical coupling between a generator 12 and a motor 14 with a clutch 16 to make a series/parallel composite electric vehicle (SPHV) run as a series composite electric vehicle (SHV) and closes the mechanical coupling between the generator 12 and the motor 14 with the clutch 16 to make the SPHV run as a parallel hybrid vehicle (PHV) while one of the generator 12 and the motor 14 is used for acceleration/deceleration. When the charged state of a battery 30 is out of a first control target range, the ECU 32 makes the SPHV forcibly run as the SHV. With this constitution, even if the PHV running is continued for a long time, the charged state of the battery 30 is controlled with a certain frequency, so that the overcharge or overdischarge of the battery 30 can be avoided.
