PURPOSE: To reproduce a delicate color difference in an excellent way by applying color conversion to an input color image signal including a color signal in excess of a color reproduction area of an output device outputting a color image so as to be contained in the color reproduction range of the output device. CONSTITUTION: An A/D converter 102 converts data into a color signal in 8-bit for RGB per one picture element and the signal is stored in an image memory 103. The color signal stored in the memory 103 is read by a CPU 104 via a bus 110 and converted into colors L*, a*, b* of the Lab system in a uniform color space and stored again in the memory 103. The CPU 104 reads the color signal again from the memory 103 and groups the signal for each of data in a color space to generate an input color signal and a group number. When an output selector 106 is used to select any of printers 109a-109c, a ROM 107a and an output port 108a corresponding to the selected printer 109a are used so long the the selection is not revised. |
