PURPOSE: To obtain the silver halide photographic sensitive material which can be handled in a well-lighted room and has very high-contrast photographic characteristics and good reproducibility with respect to line drawing by using a specific heavy metal and specific silver halide grains as components of the emulsion layer of the sensitive material and adding a specific hydrazine derivative and a specific nucleation promoter to the emulsion layer or other hydrophilic colloidal layers of the material. CONSTITUTION: In this sensitive material, the emulsion layer contains a heavy metal such as Ir, Ru of at least 1×10<-5> mol per mol of silver and silver halide having >=95mol% content of silver chloride contg. an iron compound, and also the emulsion layer or other hydrophilic colloidal layers contain(s) a hydrazine derivative represented by the formula I and a nucleation promoter represented by the formula II. In the formula I: R1 is an aliphatic or aromatic group substituted by a sulfonamide group; R2 is a hydrogen atom, alkyl group or the like; and both of A1 and A2 are hydrogen atoms, or one of A1 and A2 is a hydrogen atom and the other is an alkylsulfonyl group or the like. In the formula II: each of R1 to R3 is an alkyl or aryl group or the like; L is an organic group linked to a P atom through one of its own carbon atom; and X is an anion.
