Vehicle rear axle with two tubular longitudinal arms

The compound rear axle (1) of the vehicle has two tubular longitudinal arms (3), stiff w.r.t. both bending and torsion, each carrying a stub axle (5) at its free end. Near their vehicle-mounted ends the longitudinal arms are connected by a transverse beam (4), stiff w.r.t. bending, yet torsionally flexible. Torsion strut springs (8) are fitted inside the tubular longitudinal arms, fixed against rotation to one end and extending out of the other free end of the arms. The free end of the torsion struts are connected via lever arms (9) and support pins to the vehicle body.
