Method of manufacture of fibres, tapes or other similar components made of superconductive ceramic of high transition temperature, such as, for example, made of YBa2Cu3O7- delta , starting with a directional solidification technique. According to this method, which is found to be much more rapid and effective than the currently known methods, a fibre or tape made of particles of a precursor of superconductive ceramic is subjected to a directional solidification at a given number of places which are equally spaced over its length. This directional solidification is performed at these various places at the same time, at the same temperature, at the same rate and in the same direction, so as to form an identical number of zones of oriented microstructure along the fibre or tape, which grow in length until they join each other. This method makes it possible to multiply the present rate of manufacture, which is known to be very slow, by a factor of the same order of magnitude as the number of places where a directional solidification is performed. If this number of places is, for example, 10, the rate of manufacture of the superconductive fibre or tape will be multiplied by approximately the same number, namely 10.

|
