PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition containing a specific oxy acid ester and an aromatic oxygen-containing compound, excellent in washability, releasability, environment preservability, biodegradability, safety, solubility for various fats and oils, operability, etc., and useful for cleansing metals, resins, etc. CONSTITUTION: This composition contains (A) an oxy acid ester comprising a compound of formula I (R<1> ,R<2> are 1-4C alkyl) such asα-methoxyisobutyric acid methyl ester, a compound of formula II such asβ-methoxyisobutyric acid methyl ester, a compound of formula III such asα-hydroxyisobutyric acid methyl ester, or a compound of formula: R<1> OCH2 CH2 CO2 R<2> such asβ-methoxypropionic acid methyl ester, and (B) an aromatic oxygen-containing compound such as acetophenone, benzophenone, diphenyl ether, benzyl acetate, methyl benzoate or dimethyl phthalate, as active components.
