PURPOSE: To obtain a new protein useful as a canine antiviral agent and an antitumor agent, having biological activity of canine interferon-β, having a specific amino acid sequence, capable of being mass-produced by gene manipulation technology, having a specific amino acid sequence. CONSTITUTION: This new protein is a protein having an amino acid sequence containing an amino acid sequence of the formula or a part of the sequence and biological activity of canine interferon-β, is mass produced by culturing Escherichia coli transformed with a recombinant plasmid incorporated with a gene fragment coding for the protein and is expected to be useful as a canine antiviral agent and antitumor agent. The protein is obtained by extracting a DNA from a canine liver, carrying out cloning by PCR method by using a synthetic DNA primer prepared based on a gene sequence already isolated in the case of other mammals, bonding the prepared canine interferon-βgene to a vector and manifesting it in a host cell. |
