PURPOSE: To obtain a molded article of metal oxide powder having high mechanical strength without damaging chemical and physical properties of powder by treating and molding metal oxide powder in the presence of an organic pigment as a molding auxiliary, an inorganic binder and/or an organic binder as a strength retaining agent in wet molding of the metal oxide powder. CONSTITUTION: An azo-based pigment, a phthalocyanine-based pigment or a polycyclic organic pigment is used as the organic pigment. A sol of a metal oxide, a hydrous silicate mineral including bentonite, kaolin and sepiolite or an inorganic or an organic acid or their metal salt is used as the inorganic binder. The amount of the organic pigment used is 1-60wt.% and the amount of the inorganic binder used is 1-30wt.% calculated as a metal oxide. In wet molding operation, the metal oxide powder is mixed with the organic pigment in a dry state and kneaded while gradually adding water. After the inorganic (organic) binder is added, kneading operation is carried out. Water is additionally added (10-60wt.%) according to kneading conditions. After molding and drying, the molded article is baked at 300-1,000 deg.C. |
