PURPOSE: To obtain a flame-retardant rubber-modified polystyrene resin compsn. by mixing a rubber-modified polystyrene resin with a specific polyhalogenated diphenylalkane, Sb2 O3 , and polytetrafluoroethylene. CONSTITUTION: This resin compsn. is prepd. by mixing 100 pts.wt. rubber- modified polystyrene resin (A) with 12-20 pts.wt. polyhalogenated diphenylalkane of the formula (wherein X is Br or Cl; (l) and (m) are each 0-5 provided they are not simultaneously 0; and R is Cn H2n provided (n) is 1-10) (B), 1-10 pts.wt. Sb2 O3 (C), and 0.01-0.5 pt.wt. polytetrafluoroethylene (D) using a Banbury mixer, etc. Component A is a dispersion of rubberlike polymer particles having particle sizes of 0.5-6μm in a matrix comprising an arom. vinyl polymer, typically a styrene polymer. The rubberlike polymer is polybutadiene, an SB copolymer, etc. The halogenated phenyl group of component B are dibromophenyl, trichlorophenyl, etc. Contg. only a small amt. of a halogenous flame retardant, the compsn. has well-balanced physical properties.
