Audio system, comprising an interface circuit 1, which is to be connected in parallel with a telephone set or other telephone equipment. The system furthermore comprises an audio memory 2 to store a spoken message, a microphone 3 for the recording thereof, a control unit 4 and operating devices 5, such that, following a "record" command, the control unit 4 instructs the audio memory 2 to record an audio signal which is supplied to the microphone 3 in the audio memory 2, and that, following a "play-back" command, the control unit 4 instructs the audio memory 2 to play back the audio signal recorded in the audio memory 2 and forward it via the interface circuit 1 to the telephone line. A caller can thus easily forward a standard message when his call is answered by an answering machine. <IMAGE>
