A panel consists of a backing layer (4) which is stuck to the wall or ceiling by an adhesive layer (2) and has its front face covered by a layer (6) of coloured particles, stuck to it by a second adhesive layer (5). The outer surface of the coloured particles layer is coated with a layer of a transparent material. The backing layer is made from a thin, flexible and porous material comprising polystyrene. Pref. the coloured particle layer is of natural fibres, such as cotton or silk, or of viscose.
