The description relates to a device for load detection with altitude adaptation in which the load is found from an altitude-dependent main load signal and an altitude-independent subsidiary load signal. In certain running modes an altitude deviation can be detected by comparing the main and subsidiary load signals. The result of the comparison is integrated in a variable time constant integrator to provide an adaptation factor with which the subsidiary load signal is corrected. The time constant of the integrator is altered in such a way that the altitude is adapted depending on the maximum possible altitude error.
