The chain circulating conveyor of the loading machine has its components connected by stirrups bridging over the roller chain spacings. The stirrups extend inclinedly upwards from the chains and in the run-in area of end-side changeover gearwheels form wedge-shaped opening chambers for horizontal insertion of the sheets or metal panels. The roller chains (1) between the run-in and a horizontal section are guided directly in connection with the changeover gearwheels (6) in an upwardly convex path. This path can be parabolic. The horizontally guided roller chains between the run-in and the horizontal section are guided by means of rollers in each chain component on steel jaws provided with bent upper edges.
