Each optical fibre (3) has a mode field diameter between 7 and 9 micrometres at 1550 nm. The cut-off wavelength is less than or equal to 1.35 micrometres, 1.33 micrometres for preference. The fibre core has an optical sheathing, surround by a hermetical seal in carbon or boron. This in turn is surrounded by a plastic or thermally hardening external covering with identifying information. The module sheathing material (4) is chosen for fineness and its grip on the fibres. The space between the modules and the outer sheath is filled with a sealing compound similar to that between the fibres. The fibres may be multicored and the cable has reinforcing elements. |
