<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a pigment dispersant which can reduce the occurrence of a color instability and gives an ink having improved dispersion, by esterifying an alpha-olefin/maleic anhydride copolymer with a monohydric alcohol so as to provide a specified saponification value. CONSTITUTION:A 15-70C alpha-olefin (A) is copolymerized with maleic anhydride (B) at a molar ratio of A to B of 1:1-5 to give a copolymer having a number- average molecular weight of 4,000-17,000. This copolymer is esterified with a monohydric alcohol (C) (e.g., myristyl alcohol) to give a pigment dispersant comprising an esterified copolymer having a saponification value of 100KOHmg/ g or less. A wax having a melting point of 45-90 deg.C and/or a resin is mixed with a pigment and said pigment dispersant to give a thermal transfer ink composition.</p> |
