Extruded tubes of thermoplastically processable polymers are wound around a mandrel once they have cooled and are subsequently subjected to heat setting. During or before winding of the tube on to the mandrel, the tube is twisted about its longitudinal axis in a direction of rotation opposite to the direction of rotation of the coil, to be precise in particular by an angle between 5 DEG and 360 DEG per winding.
