Paper sheets useful for facial tissues, bath tissues, paper towels, napkins and the like can be made to exhibit a high degree of wet resiliency. This property is achieved by using a combination of high yield pulp fibers (such as bleached chemithermomechanical pulp fibers) and a wet strength agent in an uncreped throughdrying process. The resulting product, when wetted, can spring back after being crumpled in ones hand. The sheet comprises at least about 10 dry weight percent of the high yield pulp fibres and has a density of about 0.3 grams per c.c. or less a wet/dry geometric mean tensile strength ratio of about 0.1 or greater and a wet wrinkle recovery of about 70% or greater. Compression ratios, springback ratios, loading energy ratios and compressed bulk are also specified. |
