PURPOSE: To obtain a passive ranging apparatus by which a distance, an azimuth angle and an angle of elevation with reference to a target are found with a small processing amount. CONSTITUTION: Wave-receiver arrays 11, 12, 13 form a linear arrangement by using all received waves by the wave-receiver array 12 which can be divided, and when a part is used, a nonlinear arrangement is formed. Propagation-time-difference estimation parts 21, 22 find estimation valuesτ21 *,τ23 * of propagation time differences in the case of the linear arrangement, and propagation-time-difference estimation parts 23, 24 find estimation valuesτ41 *,τ43 * of propagation time differences in the case of the nonlinear arrangement. An R1 estimation part 41 finds the estimation value R1 * of a distance with reference to a target on the basis of the estimation valuesτ21 *,τ23 *. On the other hand, aθe ** setting part 71 sequentially sends out the temporary set valueθe ** of an angle of elevation, and an R2 ,θa estimation part 51 finds the estimation value R2 * (θe **) of a temporary distance and a temporary azimuth angle on the basis of the estimation valuesτ41 *,τ43 * and the temporary set valueθe **. An agreement between the estimation value R1 * and the temporary estimation value R2 * (θe **) is judged by an estimation-result evaluation part 61, and the temporary set valueθe ** and the azimuth angle are output when they agree.
