PURPOSE: To improve the resolution of a decoded image by applying classification processing suitable for characteristic of an image when interpolation object picture elements are classified. CONSTITUTION: Transmission picture elements d, i, f, g in the vicinity of noted picture elements (marked +) being interpolation object picture elements are used as a reference picture element to obtain a mean value of transmission picture elements c and e, h and f, a and k, b and l around the reference picture elements and a logic value is obtained depending whether or not the picture element value of the reference picture elements is more than the mean value. Proper classification processing suitable for the characteristic of the image is attained by classifying the noted picture elements (marked +) based on the pattern of the logic value and the image signal transmitter in which the resolution of the decoded image is improved is realized. |
