PURPOSE: To provide a small-sized motor capable of creating a high torque, reducing torque ripple at high revolutions and performing a so-called field weakening control. CONSTITUTION: In an electric motor with a stator 51 having m portions with a high magnetic resistance and a low magnetic resistance in radial direction in the whole circumference and with a rotor 54 having n portions with a high magnetic resistance and a low magnetic resistance in radial direction in the whole circumference. The number m and n are sufficiently large,|m-n|is a small number such as 1 or 2. Two-pole, multi-phase AC stator windings are provided to the stator.
