<p>PURPOSE: To simplify constitution by using a common smoothing circuit when resolution in a sub-scanning direction is lower or higher than that in a main scanning direction. CONSTITUTION: When 21 picture elements of seven columns by three rows centering around the picture element H are inputted to a smoothing circuit 16, the circuit 16 generates an interpolation picture element pattern by referring to those 21 picture elements, and substitutes the pattern for the picture element H. Such interpolated picture element is outputted to a printer without being rotated by a second rotation circuit 17. In this way, a contour in the neighborhood of the picture element H can be smoothed. A picture element range referred in the circuit 16 is for 21 picture elements long sideways of seven columns by three rows, and many reference picture elements in the horizontal direction exist, however, since an original picture element is a vertically long one in a standard mode, a nearly square picture element can be recognized on a real screen, which enables nearly uniform reference in the horizontal and vertical directions to be performed. Therefore, it is possible to simplify the constitution by using the common smoothing circuit even when the resolution in the sub- scanning direction is lower or higher than that in the main scanning direction.</p> |
