PURPOSE: To easily and accurately fix a toroidal lens at an optimum position. CONSTITUTION: As for this laser scanning optical device constituted of a light emitting part 1 emitting a laser beam, a toroidal lens 2 focusing the laser beam from the part 1 in the up-and-down direction, a polygon mirror 3 reflecting and scanning the laser beam transmitted through the lens 2, a polygon motor 4 rotating the mirror 3, an f-θlens 5 focusing the laser beam reflected by the mirror 3, a synchronizing sensor 6 generating a synchronizing signal, a slit 7 adjusting the incident position of the light toward the sensor 6, and a chassis 8 holding the respective parts, and the lens 2 can move in the scanning direction, a wave-formed retaining groove is formed on both side surfaces of the base part of the lens 2, and a catch engaged with the retaining groove by energizing is provided.
