A hair treatment device, for example a dryer, comprises a body having an air duct, a DC motor M and a fan or propeller driven by the motor for driving air through the duct, a plurality of heating elements R1 - R4 provided in the duct, and an electrical circuit provided inside the body for controlling operation of the motor and heating elements. The circuit comprises a first switch SW1 for selecting the operating voltage of the dryer between at least two supply voltage levels by re-arranging the connection of at least one R1, of the heating elements R1 - R4 in order to maintain their power rating regardless of the selected operating voltage, and a second switch SW2 for selecting the power rating of the heating elements between at least hot and cool modes. The circuit further includes a diode rectifier D2 and D3 connected with the motor for enabling DC operation, and a diode-resistor series circuit D4 and R5 switch able by the second switch into operation in the cool mode for delivering limited electrical current through the motor and the heating elements. <IMAGE>
