The flat plastic card includes two essentially parallel flat sides (12), at least one of which is bevelled towards the other (14) over at least part of the circumference of the card. The bevelled edge has an angle of between 5 and 30 to the flat side, and stretches from 5% to 20% along the length of the card. The bevelled parts of each side of the card adjoin each other. Between the two bevelled sections is a rounded front face (17) at right angles to the flat sides. The leading edge of the card (19), which is used to insert it into the card reader, has different dimensions from those of the other edges.
