Method for loading and unloading a catamaran (double hull ship) wherein the ship is, with its two hulls, respectively manoeuvred into a correspondingly formed dock with two channels 12 a , 12 b , and loaded or unloaded over a promontory lying between the channels. Loading and unloading takes place from below through suitable loading hatches with the aid of ramps 26, and may also take place from its broadsides with the aid of side ramps 28, 30. The water level in the channels 12 a , 12 b can be lowered so that the ship 16 comes to rest on support elements 22 a , 22 b .
