PRINTING ROLL AND PRINTING APPARATUS

PURPOSE: To prevent the contamination of the circumference caused by the scattering of ink and to obtain good printed matter free from density irregularity even when the running speed of continuous paper changes in a printing apparatus coloring the entire surface of the continuous paper and building up ink by color ink to print a partial pattern. CONSTITUTION: A seamless solid printing part 14 composed of shallow cavities and a partial pattern printing part 15 composed of deep cavitiies are formed to the outer periphery of a printing roll 11. Ink is supplied to the outer periphery of the printing roll 11 by an ink supply device 20 and the excessive ink on the outer periphery of the printing roll 11 is scraped off by a blade 25 and the ink accumulated in the respective cavities is transferred to the continuous paper passed through the nip between the printing roll 11 and a press roll 12 not only to apply solid printing to the entire surface of the continuous paper by the ink accumulated in the shallow cavities but also to print partial patterns by the ink accumulated in the deep cavities.
