ESTERIFICATION CATALYST AND PRODUCTION OF ESTER

PURPOSE: To obtain an esterification catalyst having high catalytic activity, capable of synthesizing ester in a high yield even when acid and alcohol as starting materials are used by nearly equimolar amts. and ensuring a high rate of reaction even at a low temp. and a very slight side reaction and to produce ester with the catalyst. CONSTITUTION: This esterification catalyst contains a compd. of a titanium family metal selected from among halides, nitrates, carboxylates, alcoholates and acetylacetone complexes as at least one of active components and ester is produced from carboxylic acid and alcohol with this catalyst.
