PURPOSE: To prepare a polymer composite with a rigid polymer finely dispersed therein by melt-polymerizing a flexible polymer, such as nylon, and a monomer of a rigid polymer, such as a wholly arom. polyester, and conducting solid phase post-polymn. at a particular temp. CONSTITUTION: A flexible polymer (A) and a monomer (B) of a rigid polymer are melt-polymerized in the absence of a solvent to prepare a polymer composite, and solid phase post-polymn. of the polymer composite is conducted at a temp. above the minimum solid phase polymerizable temp. of the component (B) and below the glass transition temp. before the post-polymn. to increase the degree of polymerization of the component (A), thereby preparing a polymer composite wherein the component (B) is finely dispersed in the matrix resin (A) without coagulation to reinforce the resin. Specific examples of the component (B) include wholly arom. polyesters, such as poly(p-oxybenzoyl), and wholly arom. polyamides, such as poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide. The component (A) is nylon 6 or 66, polycarbonate or the like, and a polyestersulfone or the like is particularly suitable. The cross-sectional diameter of the component (B) in the polymer composite is pref. not more than 0.07μm.
