PURPOSE: To improve frictional resistance, heat resistance and a squeak characteristic in particular, at high loading by blending a designated amount of thermosetting resin having specific partial setting rate relative to a constant amount of nonsetting phenol resin. CONSTITUTION: Phenol resin obtained by reacting phenols and aldehydes in aid catalyst or alkali catalyst is used. Thermosetting resin of 2-100 pt. weight in which partial curing rate C is 5-90% represented by C(%)=(E1 /E0 )×100. Wherein, E0 is a reacted heat quantity of noncuring thermosetting resin obtained by measured by a differential scanning calorimeter, E1 is reacted heat quantity of a partially cured thermosetting resin obtained by measured by the differential scanning calorimeter and the respective heat quantities are represented by unit of cal. Thus the frictional material of agreeable formability can be manufactured and the material has good mechanical characteristic and improved abrasion resistance, heat resistance and the like.
