[Class 53] A cell of the layer type consists of a zinc pan 1 coated with carbon 2 on its outside and having an absorbent layer 3 for electrolyte on its inside. A cake of depolarizer rests on the absorbent layer and in order to provide space for any liquid set free during the working of the cell, the depolarizer cake is made with some free space such as a number of perforations or as shown in Fig. 1 by making it in two parts 4, 5 with a gap 6 between them. The layer 3 is provided with perforations 7 to enable liquid formed on the surface of the electrode 1 to find its way into the gap 6. |
