In the container (10) is located at least one furnace (16), behind which is coupled a flue gas heat exchanger (22). Underneath the furnace the container forms a layered storage, to which the thermal energy from the heat exchanger is supplied. The furnace is inserted into the container as an exchangeable module, while the flue gas heat exchanger is located outside of the container, but coupled to it and the furnace. When used in low energy houses, the container serves as hot water tank, and the heat carrier medium of a heating circuit (50,52) is fed through a heat exchanger (48) in the container above the furnace.
