The invention relates to a fitting, in particular for the connection of panels by a connecting member 3 which can be pushed into an insertion pot 1, a clamping screw 2, which is rotatably mounted in the insertion pot 1 obliquely with respect to the push-in direction 13, acting, with its screwing-in end 16, on the front inner edge 17 of a cutout 9 in the connecting member 3. In order also, in the case of a fitting of this type, to permit temporary latching of the fitting parts, the clamping screw 2 is mounted with a slight degree of play in the insertion pot 1, and the front edge 19 of the connecting member 3 exhibits a run-on slope 20 for the clamping screw 2. Before the parts are assembled, the clamping screw 2 is, then, screwed in until the screwing-in end 16 comes to bear a little way beneath the surface of the connecting member 3. When the connecting member 3 is pushed in, the clamping screw 2, arranged with play, is then pushed back by the run-on slope 20 and subsequently engages in a latching manner behind the front inner edge 17, this resulting in a temporary connection.
