Process for exact, solid, countersunk fitting of insert

The process uses a water jet to cut an endless first groove in the upper surface of a base material, in order to fasten at least one insert (10). At least the insert or base is made of a hard material, such as stone or concrete. The groove does not completely penetrate the base, and it corresponds to the peripheral outline of the insert. The jet is then used to cut further neighbouring grooves (6), which are enclosed by the outline, and are of similar depth to the first groove. The stems (7) between these grooves are so narrow, that they can be broken off easily by the application of a lateral force at their bases. The insert is then cut by the jet, until its peripheral contour is equal to, or marginally less than, that of the hollow (3) left after the removal of the stems. It is then stuck into the hollow.
