PURPOSE: To obtain an ionization box type X-ray detector comprising a high voltage electrode plate and a double-faced signal electrode plate having difference in the thickness in which the fluctuation in the output characteristics due to uneven spatial width of channel is improved for each channel. CONSTITUTION: The detector comprises a high voltage electrode plate 3 made of a unit metal plate, and a thicker double-faced electrode plate 2 of five layer structure obtained by forming an insulation layer on the opposite sides of a central metal plate and then providing a metal surface on the outer periphery thereof. The electrode plates are arranged radially and alternately to define the detection channel spaces of an ionization chamber type X-ray detector in which grooves 6 are made at uneven intervals (pitches: Pa, Pb, Pa, Pb,...) in two supporting plates for sandwiching the double-faced signal electrode 2 and the high voltage electrode plate 3. When both electrode plates are sandwiched, the width of each channel space (1CH) between the electrode plates 2 and 3 is set at a constant value (C). When this X-ray detector is employed in an X-ray CT system, the quality of CT image can be enhanced.
