PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need for a high-cost and heavy-weight high-voltage source by composing a roll member of the internal layer of a compressible material and an external layer, containing a piezo-electric material for generat ing an electric field, in response to distortion (deformation). SOLUTION: A conformable roll 10 contains a compressible material 13 covered with a core 12. The roll member is usually formed columnar and a layer 13 uniformly surrounds the central core 12 on coaxial conditions. Further, a surrounding surface layer 14 contains a piezoelectric polymer film, such as a polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) film. This piezoelectric material is formed by extending the PVDF film in one direction, applying a large electric field and electrically and vertically polarizing the film. When a PVDF sheet is pulled, the sheet generates an internal electric field, proportional to the distortion (deformation).
