PURPOSE: To provide a slip control device of a lockup clutch for a vehicle where the drivability or travelability is not deteriorated irrespective of a failure of a lockup relay valve. CONSTITUTION: When it is judged that the vehicle speed V is below the preset reference value VSL1 or VSL2 for judgement by a vehicle speed judging means 198, a lockup control valve 56 is preferentially switched by a lockup control valve switching control means 200 to the side where the pressure of the working fluid to be discharged from a release side oil chamber through a lockup relay valve 52 is increased. Even when the lockup clutch 32 is tried to be engaged in the region where the lockup clutch 32 is released by the failure of the lockup relay valve 52, the pressure differenceΔP between the engagement side oil chamber and the release side oil chamber of the lockup clutch 32 is reduced when the vehicle speed V is not more than the preset value VSL1 or VSL2 for judgement, and the lockup clutch 32 is approximately released.
