PURPOSE: To prevent the mismatch of predictive picture elements from being occurred by specifying the horizontal and vertical components of the motion vectors of respective picture elements to be used for synthesizing predictive images so as to take only specified values. CONSTITUTION: The horizontal and vertical components of the motion vectors of respective picture elements to be used for synthesizing the predictive images are specified so as to respectively take only integral multiple values of 1/d1 and 1/d2 (d1 and d2 are positive integers) of a distance between adjacent picture elements. In this case, the power of '2' is preferable for the value of (d) when easiness to execute multiplication/division is considered. The more the value of this (d) is increased, the more predictive error is reduced but the synthesizing processing of predictive images is complicated. Therefore, when predictive characteristics are considered, any numeral larger than '2' is desirable for the value of (d). Besides, when the balance between the predictive characteristics and the difficulty of processing is considered, '2', '4' or '8' is suitable as the concrete value of (d). |
