The annular bearing body (3) has an axial bore, with a lining (4), in which an axle (2) pivots. The lining (4) is constituted from rolled rectangular steel sheet of 2mm thickness. The bearing surface (4b) of this sheet is superficially hardened by nitration or soaked cementing to a depth of about 0.5mm. The rolled sheet, whose ends overlap each other (5), is force fitted into the bore. The sheet has, relative to the developed neutral fibre of the lining not constrained in the bore, an excess length of between 0.3 and 9 x 10-2, dependent upon the bore diameter.
