Ultrasonic image display of a moving organ

An ultrasonic transducer (21) gives two- or three-dimensional images which are stored temporarily (22) for assembly together. The image assembly is processed by computer based on at least one effective actual mode M line, with interpolation. The computed anatomical M mode image (24) is displayed on screen. The M mode line(s) is (are) selected to avoid lining up with a beam of ultrasonic transducer. The line position and/or orientation of the actual M mode line(s) can be shifted in response to the rhythmical movement, and esp. during a cardiac cycle. A reference point for the multi-dimensional images matches a perpendicular co-ordinate selected at the M mode image.
