PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst capable of efficiently hydrogenating carboxylic acid under mild conditions by carrying a noble metal belonging to the group VIII of the Periodic Table and Re on crystalline aluminosilicate. CONSTITUTION: A solid catalyst obtd. by carrying a noble metal belonging to the group VIII of the Periodic Table and Re on crystalline aluminosilicate is used in a hydrogenation reaction of carboxylic acid, especially a reaction by which dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride is hydrogenated to obtain glylcol, cyclic ether or lactone. The crystalline aluminosilicate is so-called zeolite. The noble metal and Re ate, e.g. carried on the aluminosilicate as follows; a soln. of hydrolyzable compds. of the noble metal and Re are impregnated into the aluminosilicate, dried and reduced or the noble metal is bonded to the aluminosilicate by ion exchange, dried and reduced and then Re is impregnated, dried and reduced. |
