<p>A turbocharger (2, 3) for an internal combustion engine (40) is provided with a combustion chamber (7) between its inlet and outlet to provide extra power and to enable it to function as an auxiliary power unit. The turbocharger is coupled to a motor/generator (4) which can be used as a motor for starting and as a generator during normal running. In other embodiments an auxiliary turbocharger has an output port connected to an input port of the auxiliary combustion chamber.</p> |
