Cleaning e.g. asbestos contaminated carpets and avoiding their disposal

A method for cleaning textile surface coverings, esp. carpeting, contaminated with harmful particles like asbestos entails directing a penetrating stream of gas into the depths of a changing area of the product surface which is held under vacuum to create a suction flow. Also claimed for implementing the method is appts. comprising a hood (1) covering the product (6) surface area to be treated and connected to a suction device. There is on the hood and connected to a gas source at least one blow jet (14) directed at the product surface.
