TiO2 prodn. by the sulphate process from the residue from TiO2 mfr. by the sulphate process comprises: (a) suspending the residue in H2SO4; (b) wet milling to reduce the solids to an average particle size of 1-20 mu m, so that the fraction of over-sized grains larger than 40 mu m is less than 10 wt.%; and (c) decompsn. with addn. of more H2SO4 if necessary.
