Reactant for determining a rare earth metal, including yttrium and in particular cerium, in oxidised form in an organic medium. The reactant specifically consists of the following components for successive or simultaneous addition: (1) a sufficient quantity of a lightly complex-forming strong acid such as sulfonic acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid and advantageously heavy halohydric acid (with halogens having an atomic number greater than that of fluoride), generally hydrochloric acid; (2) a by-reactant comprising at least the following ingredients: (a) a rare earth chelating agent; (b) a buffer solution with a PH of 5-7; (3) the addition of a colour indicator pellet. The invention is for analyzing hydrocarbons. |
