Conveyor with holding sections

The items (1) are carried on the roller transporter (8) with a programmed spacing (11) between the items. Each holding section (4a, 4b, 4c etc.) has driven rollers (7a) and a brake (5a) to hold the items in that section. When the conveyor is in the holding mode the first item is held in the first section by switching off the drive rollers and applying the brake. The other sections are switched off in turn in a programmed sequence which moves the items into a close spacing array. The drive rollers are operated via pneumatic control valves and solenoid valves. The sequential operation of the sections minimises air loss and provides a quiet sequence. The pneumatic drives operate lifting levers. A simple logic control regulates the sequence.
