PURPOSE:To obtain an optical fiber having an end reflection mirror improved in durability by subjecting the end at the core end of an optical fiber together with an adapter to end face polishing and forming a light reflection film at the polished end face. CONSTITUTION:After a projective film 2 the axial direction of the optical fiber core 1 is removed, the optical fiber core 1 is inserted into the adapter 3 of the bore slightly larger than the bore of the optical fiber core 1 and is joined to the adapter 3. The end face is thereafter polished together with the adapter 3 and the reflection mirror deposited with a reflection film 5 by evaporation is stuck by adhesion to the end face at the rear. As a result, the vapor deposition on the bulk material having the larger bore is made possible and since the coating at a high temp. is possible, the durability of the reflection film 5 is greatly improved at the time of forming the reflection film 5. The need for using an adhesive on an optical path is eliminated by using the adapter 3 and adhering the adapter 3 to the reflection film 5 and, therefore, the optical fiber is hardly affected by the deterioration of the adhesive with lapse of time. |
