METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR OBTAINING CHARACTERISTICS OF MOVING OBJECT

PURPOSE:To obtain shape of an object with a single camera without rotating the object. CONSTITUTION:A vehicle 12 as a moving object is photographed in a fixed section with a TV camera 15 equipped with a fish-eye lens 16. A silhouette of the vehicle is obtained by removing a background image from each photographed image. A moving locus of a point of a vehicle tire in touch with the ground is obtained in each image. The relative position of a view point of the camera 15 and the vehicle in each image is obtained. Each silhouette is arranged in a projection space with the above relative positional relation maintained and then projected to the projection space. As a result of this, shape of the vehicle is obtained.
